HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Chemistry Started in the Year 1970-71 Academic year with B.Sc CHEMISTRY in Tamil and English Medium and successfully doing educational service for the students in and around Namakkal District. During the Academic Year 2012-13 M.Sc CHEMISTRY Course was started and the Research Programmes M.Phil and Ph.D (both full time and part time) were started in the year 2014-15. Our department has the distinction of “DEPARTMENT WITH HIGHEST STRENGTH” right from the Induction the Department. The department has well qualified faculty members with excellent academic and Research background. The department faculty members have wide experience in Teaching as well as Industries. There are more than 74 research papers were published in reputed journals by our faculty members with good impact factor. Two minor research project sponsored by UGC and one research project funded by TANSCHE were successfully completed by our faculty member and few more proposals are under process.Many of our post graduate students are placed in various multinational chemical and pharmaceutical companies around Tamilnadu.

OUR ACTIVITIES

The department is doing excellent academic and research activities related to chemistry and chemical sciences. The department of chemistry offers research in surface chemistry, Environmental chemistry, Nanoscience and Technology, Pytochemistry, Corrosion science and Engineering etc. The under graduate and post graduate students of chemistry department are given intensive coaching in theoretical and Industrial Chemistry. Two minor research projects funded by UGC and one research project funded by TANSCHE were successfully completed in the fields of Solar Cells and Photocatalysis.
