Profile of the Department
The Department of Statistics was formed initially on creating a post of Lecturer for offering supportive programme to B.Sc., Mathematics, B.Sc., Geography, and B.Com., in 1968-69 as the college started functioning on the same year. Basically the college is a Men's College and so the students admitted for this course are also Men. However the Government of Tamil Nadu ordered to convert all Men's Colleges in to Co Educational College during the Year 1997-98. Our College is also not an exception to this. The course benefited both Men and Women from that year onwards. The Department got affiliation to Start B.Sc. Statistics during the Year 2012-13 and functioning from the same year.
The main objectives of the Department have been to impart socially relevant education at under graduate level by a judicious mix of empiricism and theory. An adequate exposure to Statistics and Mathematical knowledge is given to all the B.Sc., Statistics main and allied subject students. They are also required to take compulsory courses on Environmental Studies and Value Education for UG level.
